Drop in oil price sinks energy stocks

Another drop in crude oil prices helped bring energy stocks lower, bringing the market back from the record highs it set a day earlier, the AP reports. The price of crude touched its lowest level of the year Tuesday. Transocean sank 4.2% and Marathon Oil lost 3.4%. Retailers also fell. Ross Stores fell 4.8%. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 16 points, or 0.7%, to 2,437. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 61 points, or 0.3%, to 21,467. The Nasdaq fell 50 points, or 0.8%, to 6,188. Small-company stocks fell more than the rest of the market. The Russell 2000 lost 15 points, or 1.1%, to 1,402. (More stock market stories.)
