Greg Smith outpitched Mark Buehrle for his first major league win, and Kurt Suzuki went 4-for-4 as Oakland beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 Monday for its eighth victory in 10 games. Making his second big league appearance, Smith (1-0) gave up one run and six hits over seven innings at U.S. Cellular Field, where the gametime temperature was 42 degrees.

The A's are 6-1 on their first road trip of the season and they improved to 9-5 overall for their best start through 14 games since 1992. Huston Street got his fourth save in five chances with a shaky ninth. The White Sox, who had won seven of nine, were cooled off by Smith, who came to Oakland from Arizona. (More baseball stories.)
