The FBI has joined police in Wichita, Kan., in the search for a 5-year-old boy who hasn't been seen since Saturday afternoon. Police say Lucas Hernandez was seen by his stepmother around 3pm before she showered and took a nap, ABC30 reports. The boy was reported missing at 6:15pm Saturday, and officers are now searching a wider area after scouring his home, backyard, neighborhood, and the 216-acre Chisholm Creek Park. Police say no Amber Alert was issued because there were no signs Lucas was abducted. The FBI says it has deployed its Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team to assist with the search.
Authorities say Lucas has brown hair and eyes and weighs about 60 pounds, CBS News reports. He was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a gray shirt with a bear on it. Two relatives tell the Wichita Eagle that they've had concerns about the boy's welfare in the past. One of them contacted Kansas' Department for Children and Families last year. "He is one of my students and a very sweet little boy," a teacher at Wichita's Beech Elementary School, where Lucas is in pre-K, posted on Facebook. "Please pray for him and his family. My heart is so heavy right now." (More missing child stories.)
