The roller coaster of North Korea news took another twist on Saturday: Kim Jong Un met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in a surprise summit, reports the BBC. The two leaders embraced for the cameras afterward. "Both leader exchanged opinions ... for the successful holding of the North Korea-US summit," says a statement from Moon's office, adding that he will provide details on Sunday. The status of a June 12 meeting between Kim and President Trump remained very much in the air after Trump canceled the meeting, then suggested on Friday that it might happen after all.
"We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the Summit which, if it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th., and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date," Trump tweeted. And in an exchange with reporters Friday, Trump made the same point. “We’re talking to them now," he said. "They very much want to do it. We’d like to do it."
