With 48 hours to go before the election, a final poll gives Boris Johnson a 10-point edge in the race for mayor of London. The shambolic Tory is poised to romp to victory over incumbent Ken Livingstone Thursday, according to the pollster YouGov. The finding is completely at odds with other surveys, which have consistently judged the race too close to call, writes the Guardian.

Livingstone campaigned in London yesterday with Gordon Brown, but the two antagonistic Labour Party figures may not be able to stave off a drubbing. The last polls before a media blackout predict that Labour is set for a series of crushing defeats across England and Wales. Last week Brown made an embarrassing U-turn on taxes for lower-income workers that has hurt the party. (More Ken Livingstone stories.)
