Police have made an arrest in the murder of 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion, shot dead outside a Florida motorcycle dealership earlier this week. A 22-year-old was taken into custody Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder, the Broward County Sheriff's Office confirms, per the Independent, identifying the man as Dedrick Devonshay Williams of Pompano Beach. Held without bond in Broward County Jail, he has been hit with at least 11 felony charges, with previous arrests for grand theft auto, cocaine possession, weapons possession, domestic violence, and aggravated assault with a firearm, per TMZ. He allegedly held a gun to his girlfriend's head in 2014. His arrest Wednesday also led to probation violations for car theft and driving without a valid license, per the Independent.
Police initially described two suspects in Monday's shooting in Deerfield Beach. It's unclear if more arrests are expected. News of Williams' arrest first circulated at a Wednesday memorial for XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy. It came a day after the rapper posthumously broke Taylor Swift's record for most Spotify streams in one day. Tuesday's 10.4 million streams of his song "Sad!" topped the 10.1 million streams of Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" on Aug. 25, 2017, per Billboard. That and more of the rapper's accomplishments are to be celebrated Sunday at a charity event XXXTentacion reportedly planned before his death, now described as his "final wish," per NME and XXL.
