Major US stock indexes are closing higher Monday, as stocks recovered most of their early losses thanks to gains by technology stocks and banks, the AP reports Losses by energy and consumer goods companies as well as big department store chains had weighed on the market until indexes reversed course at the close. The S&P 500 index rose 8 points, or 0.3%, to 2,726. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 35 points, or 0.2%, to 24,307. The Nasdaq composite jumped 57 points, or 0.8%, to 7,567. US crude oil slid 21 cents to $73.94 a barrel. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 2.86%. The dollar strengthened versus the euro, the Mexican peso and the Canadian dollar.
