Remember the drone sightings that shut down Gatwick Airport for 36 hours and required military intervention to reopen it? Well, it's possible that some of those sightings were of Sussex Police surveillance drones, the department's chief constable now says. "We will have launched our own Sussex police drones at the time, with a view to investigate, engage, and survey the area. So there could be some level of confusion there as well,” Giles York tells the BBC, per Business Insider. Though some people questioned whether there were actually any drones at all during the shutdown, York says that 92 of 115 reported sightings had been confirmed. "I’m absolutely certain that there was a drone flying throughout the period that the airport was closed," he said. York also said he was "really sorry" for the couple who were arrested and released without charge, reports the BBC. (More drones stories.)
