Cops: Mom Got Revenge on Infant 'for Waking Me Up'
Caitlin Alyse Hardy   (Sumter County Sheriff’s Office)

Any mother will tell you having children comes with a lack of sleep. Caitlin Alyse Hardy, however, may not have gotten the memo, as she's now facing a charge of cruelty to children after allegedly pouring water on her sleeping infant's face as "payback for waking me up." The 33-year-old mother of four uploaded a 36-second video to Facebook on Saturday showing her tipping a water bottle over the nose and mouth of her 9-month-old daughter, who woke up coughing and sputtering, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina. "Payback for waking me up all kinda times of da night," Hardy allegedly wrote in the video's caption, adding three laughing emojis. A woman is heard laughing throughout the video—and laughing harder as the child coughs, per BuzzFeed.

"It just broke my heart and made [me] really sad for her and that baby," a mother of five and one of several people to report the video to authorities tells the outlet. Accused of "ill-treatment, unnecessary pain and suffering, and/or deprivation of necessary sustenance," Hardy was arrested Wednesday and released after posting $1,500 bond. The Sumter County Department of Social Services has also launched an investigation "for the benefit and safety of all children in this home," reports Newsweek. Hardy, cited in 2014 for failing to properly restrain a child in a vehicle, deleted her Facebook profile, though screenshots of the video remain. (More child cruelty stories.)
