Madonna spoke candidly about her kids during a recent interview with Vogue, saying that she gave her older kids phones at 13—and that was "a mistake" she's not planning to make with her younger kids, including now-13-year-old David, who doesn't yet have a phone. Giving her older children phones at that age, she reveals, "ended my relationship with them, really. Not completely, but it became a very, very big part of their lives. They became too inundated with imagery and started to compare themselves to other people, and that’s really bad for self-growth." Madonna had daughter Lourdes with ex Carlos Leon, son Rocco with ex Guy Ritchie, then adopted David, Mercy, Estere, and Stella from Malawi over the years. Madonna also noted to Vogue that Lourdes, aka Lola, "is insanely talented. I'm green with envy because she's incredible at everything she does," including dance, acting, and piano. "But she doesn't have the same drive, and again, I feel social media plagues her and makes her feel like, 'People are going to give me things because I'm her daughter.'" She says she talks to Lola about other children of celebrities who have to work hard to be taken seriously. "But does she have the same drive that I have? No. But she also has a mother, and I didn't. She grew up with money, and I didn't. So everything is going to be different. But what can I do? I can't fixate on it. I just have to do my best." (Madonna has gone through trying times with Rocco in the past.)
