Jimmy Carter is recovering from surgery after falling at home Monday and breaking his hip. The surgery was successful, the Carter Center tweeted. The former president, who's 94, is "recovering comfortably" at a hospital in Americus, Georgia; his wife, Rosalynn, is with him. He was preparing to go turkey hunting when he fell in his house in Plains. "President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week," the Carter Center said, "and he has not reached his limit."
In 2015, Carter announced that doctors had discovered a form of melanoma that had spread to his brain. After radiation treatment, per the Washington Post, he was declared free of cancer four months later. (Carter now holds the record for presidential longevity.)
