Mike Pence has no issue with the Trump administration's decision to keep pride flags off flagpoles at US embassies during Pride Month. "We're proud to be able to serve every American," but "when it comes to the American flagpole, and American embassies, and capitals around the world, one American flag flies," the vice president tells NBC News. "It's the right decision," adds Pence, whom the Guardian points out once said "societal collapse" would follow the legalization of gay marriage.
But Pence isn't the only administration official defending the move, confirmed after embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil, and Latvia were denied requests to fly the flag. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo "has the position that as it relates to the flagpole that only the American flag should be flown there," a spokesperson said Monday, per NBC. Pence went on to add the administration "put no restrictions" on the pride flag flying elsewhere on embassy grounds. (More gay pride stories.)
