A US grand jury has charged 38 Americans and Romanians with stealing credit and debit card numbers in an online phishing scheme, PC World reports. The culprits allegedly sent out emails that resembled official documents, asking people to cough up personal data and account numbers—which they did, by the thousands.

"Criminals who exploit the power and convenience of the Internet do not recognize national borders; therefore our efforts to prevent their attacks cannot end at our borders either," said Deputy Attorney General Mark Filip. (More phishing stories.)
