A reality star is providing an unfortunate lesson in public safety—beware of flying champagne corks. Theo Campbell, 28, writes on Instagram that he lost the vision in his right eye after being struck by one, reports Page Six. Campbell is a former contestant on the UK's Love Island and is next on tap to appear on MTV's The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2. Girlfriend Kaz Crossley, 24, who appeared on Love Island herself, explained on Instagram stories that someone opened a bottle of champagne near Campbell's face while he was visiting the Spanish island of Ibiza, per CNN.
"So yeah basically 2 eye surgeries later after a really unfortunate accident, I've lost all vision in my right eye as it got split in half," wrote Campbell in his post. "Who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me." Campbell sounded upbeat, though, adding a joke about seeking advice on where to buy "cool eye patches." In a tweet Wednesday, Campbell said he needed seven stitches in his eye ("gross," he added), which doctors had told him he might lose altogether. He says he's "hopeful and don't want to believe that my eye is gone forever." (Some blind people can perceive their environments through "blindsight.")
