President Trump is going to Baltimore on Thursday to address House Republicans gathering there for a retreat. The otherwise routine political stop is getting more attention than usual, however, because it comes just weeks after the president unleashed a high-profile series of slams against the city, notes the Baltimore Sun. Among those slams: He called Baltimore a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess,” "dangerous & filthy," "hell," and a place “no human being would want to live.”
Republicans scheduled Baltimore as the site of their retreat long before Trump's comments, which came amid a public spat with local congressman Elijah Cummings, reports the Washington Post. The hotel where the treat will take place is just outside Cummings' district, but Trump might well hear from residents and local leaders still angry over his insults. (Baltimore's mayor floated an unusual idea to curb violence among young men.)
