Jack Hatton, a member of the US judo team who was competing for a spot on the 2020 Olympic team, has died at 24. "Jack made an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and he will not be forgotten," a statement by USA Judo said. A cause of death was not announced, CNN reports. Hatton was ranked among the top US men in international judo, having made it to the second round for three consecutive world championships, per USA Today. He trained in Massachusetts and was from New York. "I am in shock," said Khasan Khalmurzaev, a Russian gold medal winner and competitor, per JudoInside. "He was a very promising athlete and I think he had a great future. It's a pity." (More judo stories.)
