Insider: Weinstein's Cell Will Be Like 'Little Hotel'

To the state of New York, Harvey Weinstein is now Inmate No. 06581138Z. Weinstein, who was convicted of sex crimes on Monday, was taken to a prison ward at Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital Center after the verdict. His next stop is expected to be the notorious Rikers Island jail. Lawyers have asked for the former film producer to be housed in a medical unit until his sentencing on March 11, and while it's not exactly the Four Seasons, a former city official says Weinstein will likely have a private cell with a shower, a TV, and possibly a phone. "It's like a little hotel, like your own little apartment," a former city jail official tells the New York Times. "You have everything you need. It's very isolated. It’s a way to guarantee his safety."

Sources tell TMZ that New York prison officials are so worried about Weinstein ending up like Jeffrey Epstein that they plan to watch him very closely—and they would prefer to ship him elsewhere. Weinstein faces up to 29 years in prison and it's not clear where he will end up long-term, though as a rapist, he is unlikely to be sent to a minimum security institution. He hired a prison consultant to advise him two weeks ago. Jennifer Scaife, executive director of the Correctional Association of New York, tells Bloomberg that Weinstein is likely to end up in protective custody at the Clinton Correctional Facility upstate, where he will spend almost all of his time alone in an 8-by-10-foot cell.
