Updated: This file has been updated with additional details about the suspect.
Police say they have a suspect in custody after an SUV plowed into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin, but they haven't provided any details publicly. Now, however, multiple outlets—including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the AP, and Fox News—say the man in custody is 39-year-old Darrell Brooks of Milwaukee. Brooks has a long criminal record, and one with recent additions. The AP quotes an anonymous law enforcement official who says the driver may have been fleeing a crime when he broke through road barriers and hit those in the parade. CNN is reporting the same, and the Washington Post quotes a source who says the driver appears to have been fleeing the scene of a knife fight.

The Journal Sentinel reports that Brooks "has been charged three times in less than two years with recklessly endangering the safety of others, most recently on Nov. 5 as part of a domestic abuse incident for which he was also charged with resisting or obstructing an officer." Fox News adds that at the time of Sunday's crash, he was out on $1,000 bail over the Nov. 5 incident. The Milwaukee newspaper adds the jarring detail that in the Nov. 5 incident, Brooks was accused of deliberately hitting and injuring a woman with his car. The death toll was at five Monday morning, with more than 40 injured, and the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies has confirmed that some of its members are among the dead. (More Waukesha parade stories.)
