Britney Spears is thrilled that her longtime conservatorship is finally coming to a close, but that doesn't mean it hasn't left deep scars. On Monday, the 40-year-old singer posted what the Guardian calls a "lengthy note" on Instagram that shares her feelings of late, especially regarding why she's now wary of making music or performing again. "I guess it seems odd to most now why I don't even do my music anymore," she posted in a series of screenshots. "People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally ... and after what I've been through. I'm scared of people and the business!!!! They really hurt me!!!!!!"

Spears mentioned the grueling schedule she was made to endure and how her family "embarrassed me and hurt me deeply," including with "a set up to make me fail." She also suggested her stepping back from the entertainment industry was some sort of vengeance against her loved ones. "Not doing my music anymore is my way of saying 'F--- you' in a sense when it only actually benefits my family by ignoring my real work ... it's like I've subconsciously let them win."

"I'm sorry if I sound ignorant," she noted. "I'm extremely insecure and I probably care too much." Spears also revealed to fans that she'd lost her faith temporarily, about three years ago, but it appears she's made her way back to God, imploring others to "pray" whenever things get rough—and even when life is OK. And things seem to be going well for Spears lately, as evidenced by a photo that her fiance, Sam Asghari, shared on Instagram over the holiday weekend, per People. "A very Merry Xmas @britneyspears," he wrote, showing himself embracing a smiling Spears. (More Britney Spears stories.)
