Call it the perfect crime of opportunity, though not so perfect that the alleged perpetrator didn't get caught. Cops in Buchtel, Ohio, pulled over a 2017 Nissan SUV on Oct. 29, driven by one Kevin McDonald, for a rear taillight violation, reports WCHS. McDonald was the subject of an active warrant, and as police were distracted in dealing with him, 25-year-old Hannah Warren sauntered over, per a statement from the Athens County Prosecutor.
After two previous warnings to stay away, Warren suddenly hopped into the SUV's driver's seat as police were taking McDonald to their patrol car, at which point she "sped off," per the prosecutor statement, citing a police report. Cops soon after spotted the car in Warren's hometown of Nelsonville and embarked on a high-speed chase that went on for about a half-hour, until Warren crashed into a patrol car, came to a stop near a tree, and tried to run from the scene, according to the statement. She was then reportedly tased and arrested.
A search of Warren's backpack was also said to have turned up narcotics and syringes, one of which allegedly contained meth, after she told cops she had drugs in her backpack, the statement notes. She was indicted Oct. 31 on seven felony charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, assault, receiving stolen property, and vandalism.
