The release of a second group of hostages under a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was delayed Saturday after Hamas accused Israel of violating the agreement. A senior Hamas official tells the BBC that Israel broke the terms of the agreement by failing to allow aid trucks into northern Gaza and by flying drones over the southern part of the territory. The official says the Israeli military also killed two Palestinians in Gaza and made changes to a list of Palestinian prisoners due to be freed under the ceasefire deal. Israel denies violating the agreement. Earlier Saturday, the country's prison service said it was preparing 42 Palestinian prisoners for release, the Washington Post reports.
An Egyptian official tells the AP that mediators Egypt and Qatar received a list of 14 hostages to be released by Hamas Saturday and passed it to Israel. On Friday, nine Israeli women and four children were released and 42 Palestinian women and teenagers were freed. Ten Thai citizens and one Filipino were released under a deal negotiated separately. It's not clear whether more non-Israeli hostages seized in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel will be released Saturday.
The Hamas official told the BBC that only three aid trucks had been allowed to enter northern Gaza. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees said 196 trucks carrying aid entered Gaza on Friday. The New York Times reports that COGAT, Israel's military liaison to the Palestinians, said 200 more trucks carrying aid were due to enter Gaza and 50 would be transferred to the northern part of the territory.
