People often clap when their plane lands, but maybe everyone should hold that applause until their ride makes it to the terminal gate. Passengers on a United Airlines flight found that out the hard way Friday morning, when their jet touched down OK at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, but then proceeded to roll off the runway as it was taxiing toward the terminal, reports KPRC.
"As it was exiting the runway for the gate" at around 8am local time, "the aircraft left the pavement and entered the grass," United says in a statement. It "felt like when you have a flat tire in a car," one passenger tells the outlet. The airline adds that there were no injuries and all passengers were safely brought to the terminal. The AP notes that wasn't the only United emergency on Friday: A plane bound for Mexico City from San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing at LAX after what was reported to be a hydraulics issue.
No one was said to be injured in the LA incident, either. Per the AP, the two Friday incidents bring the total of number of United Airlines emergencies this week to four: There was also a plane headed for Japan that lost a 265-pound tire while taking off from the San Francisco airport on Thursday, as well as a flight from Houston to Fort Myers, Florida, that was made to turn around Monday after one of its engines burst into flames. Three of the planes involved Boeing jets; the LA incident involved an Airbus A320 plane. (More United Airlines stories.)
