On Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez found herself in a verbal battle with colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene during a House Oversight Committee hearing, after MTG poked fun of Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett's "fake eyelashes" and suggested AOC lacked intelligence. On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez became mired in a new fight: this time with a fellow Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. Per the Hill, Fetterman kicked off the latest commotion when he tweeted Friday morning about the contentious House hearing the previous day: "In the past, I've described the US House as The Jerry Springer Show. Today, I'm apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show."
AOC apparently didn't see the humor in his post, perhaps because she was one of the figures at the center of that infighting. "I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a 'both sides' issue," Ocasio-Cortez shot back. "But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one." AOC also had a message for Pennsylvania's women: "I'd stand up for you too." The back-and forth continued with a response from Fetterman's camp.
"John responded to an absurd screaming match of personal attacks in an unhinged House committee hearing," a spokesperson tells Politico. AOC also elaborated more on the matter, telling reporters on Friday, "A person ... either [has] to accept and normalize the indignity of that treatment or feel like they have to defend themselves because the institution will not, and that is why rules are important. That's why structure is important. And that's why [House Oversight Chair] James Comer's leadership has been one of the biggest failures in the country over the last year."
