The WNBA stages its All-Star Game this weekend, and some unusual storylines are at play:

  • The game: The big contest Saturday night will pit Team USA—the Olympic team headed to Paris that is filled with WNBA players—against Team WNBA, made up of players who did not make the Olympic cut. As the Athletic notes, it will be a game "dripping with angst." ABC is airing the game, which starts at 8:30pm Eastern on Saturday. It's also on DirectTV, Fubo, and Hulu.

  • Rival teammates: On Team WNBA will be Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, star rookies who have a famous rivalry but will now be teammates for a day. "Which means we're about to see Clark, the WNBA's new single-game assists record-holder, feeding Reese, the league's record double-double streak holder, with bragging rights over Team USA on the line," per Yahoo Sports.
  • Not-so-rival rivals: One of the odder quirks of the game will be that Connecticut teammates DeWanna Bonner (Team WNBA) and Alyssa Thomas (Team USA) will be on opposing sides. What's unusual is that the teammates also happen to be engaged to each other. "I'm gonna try to bust her up," Bonner joked to the media, per CT Insider.
