In the largest immigration raid in US history, federal agents have arrested 595 suspected illegal aliens at a Mississippi electronics factory. The detainees rounded up Monday included citizens of Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, Brazil and Germany, reports Reuters.
Immigrant activists complained that the raid cast a chill on the town of Laurel and exacted a huge toll on workers. "If you have young children going to school, and they come home and find their parents gone, that is a major crisis," said the director of an immigrants' rights group. "People are very, very fearful." (More illegal immigration stories.)
