There’s no crying in baseball, but there are plenty of furrowed brows today after last night’s bizarre Dodgers-Giants game. Los Angeles was leading 2-0 in the sixth when Giants catcher Bengie Molina hit a home run that was ruled a single. The Giants replaced him with pinch runner Emmanuel Burriss, but still argued the call, sparking a grueling 14-minute video review.
Even the video was unclear, but a paint smudge on the ball cinched it: Molina had gone yard. Yet umps awarded the homer to Burriss because he was on base. "Nice swing," Molina deadpanned after Burriss rounded home. The Giants protested but ended up winning in the tenth with a walk-off single. "It was just hilarious," Burriss told the San Francisco Chronicle.
