Your next organic frozen treat might come with an extra topping you definitely don't want. USA Today reports that Straus Family Creamery is recalling several flavors of its Organic Super Premium Ice Cream over concerns that some containers may contain metal fragments, according to an FDA notice. No injuries have been reported, and only specific "best by" dates are affected. The products were sold starting May 4 in 17 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Recalled items include: Vanilla Bean pints, Strawberry pints and quarts, Cookie Dough pints, Dutch Chocolate quarts, and Mint Chip pints. Check here for affected UPC numbers and "best by" dates. No other Straus products are said to be involved. Customers are advised not to eat the ice cream or return it to stores. Instead, they should discard it and request a voucher for a replacement product through the company's recall website or by calling 707-776-2887.
