With the election mere weeks away, Michelle Obama is a very busy woman, the Washington Post reports. The would-be first lady has been spending more and more time on the campaign trail, humanizing her husband and focusing on his middle-class roots. “He gets it,” she tells an Ohio crowd. “There’s something that happens to folks when they grow up regular.”

Michelle focuses on her husband’s common-man side, his single parent upbringing, his relationship with his ailing grandmother. “We’re living close to the issues,” she tells one voter. Obama herself is pulling double duty valiantly, jetting to and from events so she can look after her daughters. When she is forced to spend a night away, the kids stay with a neighbor. “We are co-parenting,” says the friend. “Her kids have toothbrushes at my house.” (More Election 2008 stories.)
