Husband Is Suspect in Disappearance

Police named a suburban Chicago man a “person of interest” yesterday in the disappearance of his estranged wife, citing his lack of cooperation and their fears of foul play. Craig Stebic, who reported last seeing his wife on April 30, twice refused to let investigators talk to their children and “offered only minimal assistance to detectives,” a police chief said.

The case gained nationwide attention after a TV anchor was fired by the local NBC station for going to a pool party at Stebic's house in a bikini, with her kids in tow; the reporter, Amy Jacobson, said she was taking advantage of an offer for an interview. In divorce proceedings, Stebic's wife accused her husband of being “unnecessarily relentless, cruel, inconsiderate, domineering, and verbally abusive.” (More Craig Stebic stories.)
