Yes Man? No, Thanks

Yes Man, a Jim Carrey comedy about a guy who can’t say no, is “too sluggish and slapdash a vehicle for its star’s prodigious wackiness,” writes AO Scott in the New York Times. “Carrey looks too grown up, too tired to plunge into the reckless silliness that the story demands, and the story doesn’t really demand enough of it.”

Carrey’s “rubbery faces that worked years ago now feel tired; without his antics there's nothing to see,” writes Elizabeth Weitz in the New York Daily News. “If you own the superior Liar Liar, you might as well stay home and watch it again.” But Michael Philips of the Chicago Tribune says the film “starts out wobbly but ends up quite nicely, primarily because Carrey has a wonderful acting partner in Zooey Deschanel.”
