Amid second scandal, she admits mistakes but defends mission

As the second scandal rocks Oprah Winfrey's South African girls' school, the media mogul admits she made mistakes in setting it up but remains committed to its mission. "The majority of girls are thriving, really fulfilling the dream and vision I had," Winfrey told the African Weekly Argus, as noted by the South African Independent. "They really have exceeded any expectations I had for them."

Winfrey said she has "made several mistakes, and one of them was being over-protective of the girls, which has led to an impression that the school is isolating them from society." She said she's been closely involved with the most recent disciplinary measures involving sexual misconduct by students at the boarding school. Her mission—providing a top-notch education to needy students—can be "ultimately judged" only when the girls graduate, she said.
