The fan kicked out of Yankee Stadium last August for trying to use the bathroom during God Bless America won a moral victory (and a payday) today, NY1 reports, with the Yankees and New York City settling the man’s discrimination suit. The team publicly stated that it has no policy against using the facilities during the song, and the city it will pay the man $10,001, plus $12,000 in legal fees.
The suit, filed on behalf of Queens resident Bradford Campeau-Laurion by the New York Civil Liberties Union in April, alleged that the Red Sox had been the victim of religious and political discrimination. The city admitted no liability on its part, or on the part of the police officers who ejected Campeau-Laurion, in the settlement, the Times adds. (More New York Yankees stories.)
