Serena Williams' racket-smashing, verbal tirade at the US Open last night will  cost her $10,500, the New York Times reports. The United States Tennis Association levied the fine today for unsportsmanlike conduct and racket abuse, SHe will be permitted to play her doubles match with sister Venus tomorrow. Venus practiced with their father today, but Serena was nowhere to be seen.

“I would be utterly shocked if they don’t" play, says a retired player who works for CBS. “The best antidote for something like this is to get right back on the court.” (More US Open Tennis stories.)
