There'll be good vibrations at the Kennedy Center: the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and Motown legend Diana Ross have been chosen as this year's honorees. Comic actor and writer Steve Martin, film director Martin Scorsese and pianist Leon Fleisher will also be honored, reports the Washington Post.
The Kennedy Center awards recognize lasting contributions to the arts in America. All five have "transformed the way we as Americans see, hear and feel the performing arts," said the center's chairman, hedge fund king Stephen A. Schwarzman. "It is a huge, huge honor," said Ross, who added that she was "taken aback" by being chosen. (More Kennedy Center stories.)
