The man suspected of gunning down four police officers yesterday morning was not in the Seattle home a SWAT team raided this morning, after a night of attempted negotiation, though authorities found evidence that he had been in the home. Police are now searching the University of Washington campus, after a report that the accused killer, Maurice Clemmons, was seen getting off a bus on campus. Clemmons was allegedly shot by one of the officers he is suspected of murdering yesterday, police tell the Seattle Times, and could possibly be dead.
People in touch with Clemmons after the shooting but before the false standoff say he was wounded in the torso by a police bullet, MSNBC reports. A clearer picture of the violence at a Tacoma-area coffee shop emerged today: Witnesses say Clemmons entered the store, and executed two officers before they could respond. A third was shot attempting to wrestle his gun away, and the fourth fought him to the door and managed to wound him before being killed himself. (More Maurice Clemmons stories.)
