The House Committee on Homeland Security has asked the couple who crashed last week's White House state dinner to testify on Thursday. Tareq and Michaele Salahi have not confirmed that they will appear, and testifying could complicate their plans to auction off the story of how they infiltrated the theoretically secure event. The committee has never had to use a subpoena to compel testimony but would not hesitate to do so, a spokeswoman said.

"This is a time for answers, recognition of security deficiencies past and present, and remedies to ensure the strength of the Secret Service and the safety of those under its protection," committee chair Bennie Thompson said. The panel has also asked Secret Service director Mark Sullivan to testify, the Washington Post reports.
