Tim Kaine got a big surprise in his final radio show today, when he got a call from “Barry in DC,” who was no sooner on the air than he revealed, “Well, uh, governor, this is, uh, actually the president of the United States calling.” Obama had phoned in to congratulate Kaine, whose term as Virginia’s governor ends in January, on his last show—but not before slipping in a joke having some "questions about traffic in northern Virginia."
Kaine and Obama are close, and spent a few minutes waxing poetic about their wives and patting each other on the back. "I just wanted to say how proud we are of your service as governor of the commonwealth of Virginia," Obama said. "now get back to the calls." (More Tim Kaine stories.)
