Planned Parenthood cites pressure in case of vanishing permit

A federal judge will hear a lawsuit today alleging a Planned Parenthood clinic lost its permit on the eve of its opening due to pressure from anti-abortion groups. Officials in Aurora, Ill., maintain the permit they approved last winter withheld the facility’s true nature, and many in town are steamed, Time reports. The clinic has more than a dozen appointments set tomorrow.

The town says Planned Parenthood originally applied under a subsidiary’s name, but the clinic was approved a second time last month—after a newspaper reported on the relationship. Public outcry ensued, and officials said a full review was needed before approval; most recently, they’ve told the nonprofit they have “no intention of allowing you to open for business.” (More Illinois stories.)
