Bush, Clinton Tour Port-au-Prince

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush toured Port-au-Prince today, meeting survivors of the Jan. 12 earthquake at a huge homeless camp in the Haitian capital. The former presidents, who were making their first joint visit, spearheaded the American relief fundraising effort, which has drawn $37 million so far. "Our mission is to help fill the gaps of human needs and help create jobs," Bush told the Miami Herald.

To that end, president Rene Preval has issued an executive order authorizing the taking of property by eminent domain, a move intended to relieve a bottleneck. "We should be able to take some of the camps that are too crowded and those that are too low and therefore in danger of flooding and move them," Clinton said. "We have to get the whole universe of people who want to help Haiti operating on the same page."
