The Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien rivalry may not be over—and the next round could be over an Emmy. It's possible that the O'Brien and Leno versions of the Tonight Show could go up against each other. Both are eligible, an awards official tells the Wrap, a situation that could be lots of fun. "The two-shot of Leno and O'Brien as the nominees in their category were being read would make the James Cameron-Katherine Bigelow tension from last month's Oscars pale in comparison," writes Josef Adalian.
It's a safe bet that NBC would cough up money for Leno, but Coco would have to pay for his own publicity. Of course, the late-night war created so much sympathy for O'Brien that he might not need to. "I can imagine a world in which Conan gets nominated without campaigning," one insider says. For either to score the best show award, however, the biggest threat is actually Jon Stewart. His Daily Show has won 7 years in a row.
