Tennis Great Navratilova Has Breast Cancer

Nine-time Wimbledon champ Martina Navratilova has breast cancer, reports People, which cites the tennis star's prognosis as excellent. "I cried," she says of her February diagnosis after a routine mammogram. "It knocked me on my ass, really. I feel so in control of my life and my body, and then this comes, and it's completely out of my hands."

Navratilova has ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS, which the AP reports is detected in 70,000 American women per year and has only a 1% fatality rate. Early detection helps, though the tennis great says "I went four years between mammograms. I let it slide. Everyone gets busy, but don't make excuses.
