Just hours after recalling his history of substance abuse—he was even introduced by his former sponsor—Rep. Patrick Kennedy got loaded at a bar and was cut off after six shots of vodka. He seemed to have a good time though—a tipster tells Roll Call that Kennedy was joking with everyone and called Barack Obama “the best president ever.” He then slapped the tipster’s back and responded, “Oh yeah! Good one,” when reminded of his uncle JFK.

Kennedy had just come from a fundraising dinner for a DC charity where he was given an award for his work on mental health issues. In his acceptance speech, he made reference to the night in 2006 when, high on prescription drugs, he crashed his car into a barricade. After receiving the award, he arrived at the bar around 11pm—and he may have gone on drinking, because the bartender only cut him off from doing more shots.
