The adult entertainment industry wants you to know you've been a very bad boy if you've downloaded its movies without paying. And for some inexplicable reason, the industry has chosen to deliver this message in a video shot entirely from the neck up, in which various porn stars offer gravely serious admonitions like, “If you made your living selling something, you wouldn't want people to steal it just because they can.”
This is the opening gambit in what the Adult Entertainment Trade Association promises is a concerted industry push against piracy, Wired reports. “What we’re trying to communicate in these new videos, is that this is not just hurting the big companies like Larry Flynt, but the people who work in production,” a coalition official explains. The association says DVD sales are down by a third thanks to pirates, and an aggressive response is in the works, starting with fingerprinting technology designed to catch thieves in the act—or maybe just after the act, to be polite.
