BP Pipe Siphons Some Oil, Dislodges
Veterinarian Erica Miller cleans a Brown Pelican Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Fort Jackson Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Buras, La. The bird was rescued after being exposed in an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico caused by the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon oil platform more than three weeks...   (Charlie Riedel)

BP says engineers trying to stop an oil leak deep beneath the Gulf of Mexico used a mile-long tube to funnel some oil to the surface, but that it became dislodged. In a news release, BP says it halted the process early today, but that some of the oil and gas mixture coming from the broken well made it to a tanker at the surface. BP says engineers are trying to get the tube to work again. (More British Petroleum stories.)
