BP tried to mollify the outraged masses today, sending COO Doug Suttles onto all the major network morning talk shows to apologize for his company's failure to stop the oil flowing into the Gulf. “We are doing everything we can, everything I know,” he said on NBC, adding that the next attempt to stop the bleeding—this time by plugging the leak with mud and cement—won't come until Wednesday.

“Everyone is frustrated,” Suttles said. “I think the people of the region are frustrated. I know we are, I know the government is.” He was responding in part to a statement Sunday from Ken Salazaar, the AP explains. “I have no question that BP is throwing everything at the problem,” he said. “Do I have confidence that they know exactly what they are doing? No, not completely.” (More Doug Suttles stories.)
