You don't need a Magic 8 Ball to predict whether your marriage will make it. Using data from a number of studies, Anneli Rufus pulled together 15 facts about you and your spouse's age, kids, and health that all point to the same conclusion: Outlook not so good. She shares the bad news on the Daily Beast:
- Blushing young brides are in trouble: If you marry before age 18, there's a 48% chance you'll divorce before you hit 28. Wait till you're 25, and the risk of splitting within 10 years is cut in half.
- And brides, make sure you're on the same page about kids: If you want a child more than your hubby does, you're twice as likely to call it quits as a couple in agreement on the topic—and how many you already have doesn't matter.
- If you do have kids, pray for a boy and a girl: Have two sons, and your likelihood of getting divorced is 36.9%; have two girls, and you're saddled with a 43.1% chance.
- Stay healthy: A woman diagnosed with cancer is six times more likely to see her marriage end than if her husband is the one diagnosed.
