Entertainment / black people The 33 'Blackest White Folks' Some choices, like Glenn Beck, may be a bit tongue-in-cheek By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Jul 24, 2010 1:20 PM CDT Copied Christina Aguilera sings the national anthem before Game 7 of the NBA basketball finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics on June 17, 2010, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong) Some white people “claim ‘blackness,’” and a few actually do make the cut. The Root offers a list of the 33 “blackest white folks we know”: Christina Aguilera: Unlike fellow pop starlets Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, Aguilera actually has soul. She even “channeled Patti LaBelle in the remake of ‘Lady Marmalade.’” Glenn Beck: Perhaps he’s the person you’d least expect to see on this list, but he did give a black history lesson on his show. Eminem: “He's from Detroit. He raps about the hard-knock life. And he rolls with Dr. Dre. Case closed.” Joe Biden: The VP once “almost scrapped with a pomade-wearing brother named Corn Pop during his days as a lifeguard at a predominantly black swimming pool”—so he gets a “‘hood pass.” Kim Kardashian: “Never mind the Booty Pop physique.” She makes the list because her on-again, off-again relationship with Reggie Bush made it into Essence’s “Black Love” issue. Asher Roth: “Like Kanye, he grew up middle-class. Like Kanye, his sartorial style is more preppy than hip-hop. Like Kanye, he's got absolutely no street cred.” (For more on the "dork" rapper, click here.) To see the complete list, click here. (More black people stories.) Report an error
