John Boehner—the House minority leader who could be House speaker if things go right for Republicans in the midterms—is generating headlines today for one of his economic prescriptions: Obama must fire Tim Geithner and Larry Summers. The duo must "see the handwriting on the wall" after the departure of other key fiscal advisers, he says. Full text of Boehner's economic speech here, in which he also calls on the president to veto any bills that would raise taxes. Politico's take here.

Some quick reaction:

  • David Dayen, Firedog Lake: This "major" speech is "basically pabulum," he writes. "Boehner and company can promise “new ideas” for the next millennium, I’m sure they’ll come out spelled T-A-X C-U-T-S.”
  • Ed Morrissey, Hot Air: "Boehner may have given Obama the best political advice he could get. Firing the team that failed to deliver the growth Obama promised would at least show that Obama understands that his policies aren’t working. If he waits until the day after the midterms, it’s not going to do him or his party much good."
