BP Boss: Environment Will Be Fine

Tony Hayward is an optimist. The BP CEO believes his company's done a great job responding to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, he tells Sky News. After bragging about a new piece of technology that's allowed BP to harvest thousands of gallons of oil from the leak, he adds: “I think the environmental impact of this disaster is likely to have been very, very modest.”

Hayward had just come from Florida, where he delivered a $25 million check to pay for a state tourism advertising campaign. He said he expects the leak to be closed in 7 to 10 days, and he brushed off any talk of friction between BP and the Obama administration: “The extent of the cooperation that is taking place I think will be seen as a textbook example of how to do an emergency response.” (More Tony Hayward stories.)
